Pipestem Resort State Park is West Virginia's premier family adventure resort. Sitting on the east rim of the Bluestone River Gorge, Pipestem offers something for everyone, including exciting zip line tours, guided trout fishing trips, mountain biking excursions, and water activities. Spend some time on the new adventure lake or on the splash park's water slide. The sprawling 4,050-acre park is located on the border of Summers and Mercer counties and features 26 cabins and two lodges, of which only one is accessible by train to the top of the Bluestone River Gorge. Just 20 minutes away, you'll find a lot more to do at Bluestone State Park, next to Bluestone Lake.
Pipestem Lake WV Trout Fishing
Pipestem offers West Virginia anglers some of the finest trout and smallmouth bass fishing opportunities. Try out Long Branch Lake or the nearby New and Bluestone rivers. If you're planning on fishing out, look into finding overnight accommodations by calling the cabin or motel ahead of time. There are numerous access points to the lake so take a hike down one of the many trails and cast your lines and sit back and relax.
Long Branch Lake, located near the center of Pipestem, is a 16-acre impoundment that usually has trout beginning in February and ending in May. There are also large populations of largemouth bass, catfish and bluegills in the lake. For bait, salmon eggs, powerbait, spinners and trout magnets are recommended for brookies, rainbows and brown trout.
Lodging at Pipestem State Park
McKeever Lodge-The McKeever Lodge has many guest rooms and suites, which can all include views of the river. It offers rooms where guests are allowed to bring their dogs, WiFi, an indoor heated pool, billiards room, saunas, and exercise area. Visitors can choose to dine on full-service cuisine at the Bluestone Dining Room or take the relaxed setting of the bar at the Black Bear Grill and Lounge.
Mountain Creek Lodge-The Mountain Creek Lodge is accessible only by the park's popular aerial tramway from May to October. During the ride on its 300-ft. vertical, 30-room tower, the lodge flaunts a breathtaking view of the Bluestone River. The tasty Mountain Creek Restaurant's gourmet menu is reserved for those patrons who reserve a table in advance.
Pipestem Cabins-Pipestem Resort State Park has over 26 cabins offered along the shore. These charming log cabins are perfect for family adventures and trips made by this adventure resort. After a morning of fishing on the Bluestone River or a day on the Pipestem Peaks Zipline Tour, there is nothing better than returning to your cabin to relax and unwind. Pet-friendly cabins are available.
Tent and Camper Sites-Pipestem State Park features 82 campsites open year-round, 31 of which are equipped with full hookups. 19 sites are electric only. So pitch a tent or bring your camper there is plenty of room to enjoy everything Pipestem Lake WV has to offer.
Adventure Lake Pipestem WV
Adventure Lake and Splash Pad is open from May-Sept each year. Everyone must wear a life jacket when climbing on inflatables in the lake. An all-day pass will run you roughly $20. Staff can take you down to the Long Branch Lake on a golf cart or you can stroll down the road to the bottom in about 10 minutes. There are beach chairs at the lake where you can sit and watch all the fun the in the water.
