Welcome Eastern Fly! The board here is not too busy, but there are some folks who stop by and check it pretty often.

Been fishing yet in 09?

Not Yet. Im waiting for my tax money to return. I have a custom 7wt being built for me. I also have a 6wt and a 4wt. This new rod will be my streamer rod. I am also looking for ideas for streamers for the North Branch.

Eastern, get an extra spool for your reel and put a sinking line on it (6 or 7wt will work with a class IV or V sink rate). That's a good place to start for streamer fishing. The sink in the line looks more natural than heavy weighted streamers. You want the streamers to looks natural and flutter in the water well with some good movement and if you play them right, you wont have to get them down too deep anyway. Fish will often hit out of aggression from being territorial if you play it right.

The North Branch has some big fish, so big streamers would probably work well. Go big---bigger than you would think.

Check out some of the rabbit strip streamers, zoo cougars, or any pattern that imitates a Sculpin, or even a small rainbow or brook trout. There are so many out there it's hard to know where to start. Do you tie your own flies?

Yes I do. That is one reason I am looking for ideas. I have in mind a sink tip that has a 30 ft class 5 tip. I think that will work with the flys I have and in the future.
